The Australia – China Youth Association Victoria Bilingual Language Competition (‘ACYA VIC BLC’) is an innovative and ambitious student initiative under the ACYA brand. With the concerted efforts of students from the 5 active ACYA Victorian chapters namely, University of Melbourne, Monash University, RMIT University, Latrobe University, and Deakin University, this competition is run by the state-wide committee, ACYA VIC BLC.

This competition has three aims. Firstly, the competition hopes to provide public recognition for linguistic talents and commend their willingness to step out of their comfort zone. Secondly, the competition aims to motivate other language learners to continue to strive for excellence and cultivate a desire to learn. Lastly, the competition endeavours to engage the broader community and promote cultural understanding of Australia and China.

ACYA VIC BLC comprises of two rounds. The first round requires participants to write two essays, one in English, the other in Chinese. After a competitive selection process, the top 5 finalists from the Advanced level and Intermediate level then proceed to the second round, a public speaking competition where they showcase their communication and presentation skills in front of an audience composed of people from different sectors within the community. The finals are open to the public to attend. All tertiary students, regardless of their age, currently enrolled at a Victorian University are eligible to participate in ACYA VIC BLC.

Winners and finalists are awarded with extensive media coverage via our online social media platforms and our supporting organisations such as SBS Radio and 3CW Radio and scholarships and to further promote and facilitate language learning.

In 2015, the inaugural ACYA VIC BLC finals attracted support from over 60 VIPs and over 200 attendees on the night and was a great success. ACYA VIC BLC hopes to continue the legacy and deliver quality events in the coming years.

ACYA VIC BLC is always on the look out for dedicated individuals who want to make a difference within the Australia-China space. If you or someone you know are interested in joining the ACYA VIC BLC team and are currently studying at one of the 5 Victorian chapter universities, please email your resume and cover letter with full contact details to
