Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT)

Established in 1920 to instruct railway engineers in the Russian method of construction, it has since developed as a multi-disciplinary university, covering energy science, software, management and many other disciplines. HIT is so well known for its research in science and engineering that it has a minor planet nicknamed after it: 55838 Hagongda (哈工大星).

Founded by imperial edict by the 11th Emperor of the Qing Dynasty, SJTU is a public research university which according to its English website has over 36,000 enrolled students. Alumni of the university include former President of the PRC, Jiang Zemin, who graduated from SJTU with a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering.
