Dear Members of the ACYA Community,
Welcome to 2017 and the Year of the Rooster!
I am excited for the opportunities this new year in ACYA presents and I hope you are too. I thank my predecessors on the 2016 ACYA National Executive Committee for their hard work and commitment throughout the Year of the Monkey. I would particularly like to mention the contributions of David Douglas (2016 President), who has dedicated a number of years of service to ACYA, through his involvement in the University of Melbourne Chapter and the National Executive Committee. Equally, I thank all 2016 chapter and national executives for their contributions.
2016 saw ACYA build upon existing initiatives and launch new projects and partnerships, such as the Golden Koala Chinese Film Festival, which was held in 5 major capital cities across Australia with ACYA as Event Partner. The Australia-China Emerging Leaders Summit (ACELS), ACYA’s flagship event, moved from Shanghai to Beijing in China and was held in conjunction with Model APEC.
This year, we will continue to build on the successes of past Committees, whilst launching new initiatives. Members can look forward to ACELS being held in Melbourne, with the ACELS China location to be announced later in the year! Following amendments made to the constitution at the 2017 Annual General Meeting, the roles on the Committee in charge of the 3 pillars – Careers, Education and People-to-People Exchange – have been elevated and now report directly to the Managing Director. This reflects the importance of the 3 pillars in ACYA’s work.
To engage further with ACYA, make sure to join up to your local Chapter or look out on the ‘Join ACYA’ page of the website for opportunities to join the National Executive Committee.
I am looking forward to the productive and exciting year ahead of us,
