Chinese Corner
There’s no better way to stay in touch with Chinese culture and language by joining groups of like-minded people who also share your interest. Chinese Corner is a group established for these exact purposes!
Chinese Corner is an initiative dedicated to cultural exchanges between Australian and Chinese communities. The idea is to allow Australians to practice their Chinese while allowing Chinese to experience the Australian culture and bridge the knowledge gap in the “langua-culture” divide「文化与语言相互的关系」- an important cornerstone when understanding such different cultural backgrounds.
Chinese Corner participants go to art galleries, movie screenings or just out for dinner and drinks. The environment created is one where members can ONLY speak in Chinese (a peppering of English will be allowed to help you find the right Chinese word). However, members with all levels of Chinese are welcome - from the complete beginner to the native speakers.

The last Sydney Chinese Corner event at the White Rabbit Galleries was a real success, having tea in the Teahouse downstairs before watching a free screening of「 霸王别姬」 (Farewell My Concubine).
The next Sydney event will be on the 24th and we will be heading off to 「北方面家」in Haymarket. This time around though there are strict rules… as soon as participants step into the restaurant ONLY Chinese may be spoken! So it should prove a challenge to some of the members.
